DvRigPro from DVTEC
I saw a rig like this one for larger Beta SP and Digibeta Cameras at NAB last year and thought it was perfect – although
at $3000 a bit too expensive. That’s why when I first read the price on this baby I thought, how good could this be
for this price? Well let me just say this! This is the piece of equipment I have been looking for from the day I picked up
my first DV camera.
Here’s the company line on the rig.
DvRigPro.® is the most professional camera rig on the market.
It is designed for Stability and Comfort but above all for versatility, freedom of movement and creative framing.
The pod
is constructed of three spring-loaded telescopic sections. This design makes the camera float, absorbing walking camera shakes
and acts like a semi Steadicam. The camera itself can be moved to any position for comfortable viewfinder or LCD shooting.
With the use of the pod, there is absolutely no weight on your hands. evenly supported by your shoulder and the waist belt,
allowing you to use your hands for framing and operating. Not supporting.
You can easily work with it for 5 hours with out getting uncomfortable. Your head and back will be always
kept in a straight position. After adjusting the camera to the best comfortable position, tilts, and other camera positions
will be done by the rig and not your back and neck.
Here is my line on the rig.
The DvProRig is an extremely solid, well designed shoulder brace mount for
DV cameras. It features a fully adjustable brace and dual handle support, but the real secret here is that it incorporates
that “suspension support system” that features an “active suspension” support pod made up of three
spring-loaded telescoping sections. This pod fits into a waist worn pouch and connects to the shoulder mount via a flexible
screw bit style connector. It is counter balanced in the back by a camera battery area that has a metal weight which can be
replaced with an onboard battery for the camera or sungun.

Accessories also feature a tripod mount and wireless mic mounts. The whole unit can be used in an under
slung mode (with the help of a low angle kit) and can be docked right to your tripod. When put together with a remote zoom/focus
controller and a nice wide angle lens it’s the next best thing to a real steadicam – but more importantly it’s
perfect for long stretches of hand held camera work.
Garret Brown - Steadicam inventor and Jan Van der meer from Global DVC are checking the DvRigPro.
Bottom line I liked this product so much I wouldn’t send it back and kept it for myself.
By the
way this is an Israeli product that is being sold here in the US by Cartoni and can be purchased at www.evsonline.com.
But don’t just take my word for it, here’s an actual letter from a customer.
“Based
on my study of many different low cost systems, I am quite impressed with your DvRigPro ... it's a no brainer to buy it over
the mighty wondercam and other shoulder mounts... your counterweight / battery, your linkage to adjust for over the head and
chest high shots, two hand hold off camera, completely stable on the ground, horiz viewfinder adjust ... you have done well.”
